 The SBS Later
 Stage EIS Fund

Investing in established companies in the scale-up stage.

At a glance
  • Current status:                   Closed (Jul-2020)
  • Fund type:                                                        EIS
  • Investment goal:                     Capital growth
  • Focus: Later stage companies
The SBS Later Stage EIS Fund (the "Fund") invests in companies where there is evidence of strong customer acceptance of the product and service offered by the company, and where the team believes they can add substantively to the knowledge and experience of the founder and the staff as they prepare to move from scale-up to commercialisation.

The Fund will provide the finance in tranches which will be progressively be made available to the investee companies as they achieve their pre-agreed objectives. This approach is made possible because of the reporting which is provided by companies on a regular basis as well as the operations meetings that the Side by Side Partnership commits to each investee company. The Fund's approach is to have a high-touch engagement of at least two days a month mentoring each management team.

EIS tax incentives
The companies the fund invest in are expected to be EIS-qualifying, which makes The SBS Later Stage EIS Fund EIS suitable for qualifying clients who would potentially benefit from the following tax reliefs:
  • Up to 30% income tax relief
  • Tax-free investment growth
  • Capital gains deferral
  • Inheritance tax relief
  • Loss relief
Please note: EIS tax reliefs are only made available to investors because of the higher risks associated with investing in early-stage companies. Also, the availability of tax reliefs will depend on the investor's individual circumstances, and may be subject to change in the future. In addition, the availability of any tax relief depends on the investee companies maintaining their qualifying status. See guide for further information.
