 British Design   Fund

Investing in the UK's design sector.

At a glance
  • Current status:                    Closed (Mar-2017)
  • Fund type:                                               SEIS/EIS
  • Investment goal:                     Capital growth
  • Focus:         Product design, manufacturing
The British Design Fund seeks to invest in and provide support for UK product design and manufacturing companies. The UK has the second-largest design sector in the world and is one of the largest design industries in Europe.
  • The Fund seeks to leverage the expertise of the team that comprises Twenty20 Mentoring Limited, in order to successfully research, identify, invest in and grow early-stage UK based companies in the product design and manufacturing sector.
  • Twenty20 Mentoring Limited will act as the Company Mentor to the Investee Companies. The Company Mentor will provide Mentoring Services and other services to the Investee Companies under a mentoring services agreement between the Company Mentor and the Investee Companies.
  • The Fund has an opportunity to access a selection of investment opportunities in the product design and manufacturing sector for the Fund to potentially invest in. It is noted that Damon Bonser, a director of Twenty20 Mentoring Limited, is also currently a mentor to the Design Council Spark programme.
SEIS & EIS tax incentives
The companies the fund invest in are expected to be SEIS-EIS-qualifying, which makes British Design Fund SEIS-EIS suitable for qualifying clients who would potentially benefit from the following tax reliefs:
  • Up to 30% income tax relief (50% for SEIS)
  • Tax-free investment growth
  • Capital gains deferral (50% capital gains tax exemption for SEIS)
  • Inheritance tax relief
  • Loss relief
Please note: SEIS-EIS tax reliefs are only made available to investors because of the higher risks associated with investing in early-stage companies. Also, the availability of tax reliefs will depend on the investor's personal circumstances, and tax legislation can change in the future. See guides for further informations.
